On Monday, 15 June 2026, the concluding event of the project <\/span>\u201cEarth, Stone & Water \u2013 Our Stories\u201d<\/span><\/i> was held at the Municipal Cinema-Theatre of Andros.<\/span><\/p>

The event opened with a brief presentation of the work of the Andros Research Center, tracing its development from its establishment 17 years ago to the present day, and highlighting how the project <\/span>\u201cEarth, Stone & Water \u2013 Our Stories\u201d<\/span><\/i> fits within the organization\u2019s broader research and community engagement activities.<\/span><\/p>

This was followed by a presentation of the Oral History Group of Andros (OPIAN) and its work in collecting, documenting and preserving oral testimonies from the local community.<\/span><\/p>

The educational component of the project was then presented. The action was implemented in the EPAL of Andros, the Empirikio Junior High School of Chora, and the Junior High School with Upper Secondary Classes of Korthi, involving 56 students and four teachers. The presentation covered the methodology, implementation timeline and examples of stories related to Earth, Stone and Water, drawn both from the memories of older generations and from the experiences of the students who participated in the project.<\/span><\/p>

Particular emphasis was given to the new Oral History Digital Platform<\/a>, one of the project\u2019s most significant and lasting outcomes. The platform functions as a digital library and repository of oral histories from Andros, providing open access to residents\u2019 testimonies, thematic narratives and student-created stories. In this way, the valuable material collected and documented by OPIAN becomes accessible to residents, students, educators, researchers and visitors, contributing to the preservation and promotion of the island\u2019s cultural heritage.<\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Selected excerpts from oral testimonies hosted on the platform were then played for the audience, while students and teachers read stories produced during the educational workshops. These presentations highlighted a creative dialogue between the experiences of older generations and the perspectives of today\u2019s youth.<\/span><\/p>

Author and educator Eleni Svoronou, who co-designed the creative writing workshops, addressed the audience through a recorded video message, sharing her reflections and conclusions from her collaboration with the Andros Research Center, the students and the participating teachers.<\/span><\/p>

The event concluded with short remarks by members of OPIAN and the project team on the importance of collective memory, local knowledge and the continuation of similar initiatives in the future. An open discussion followed, accompanied by refreshments generously offered by local producers, including traditional biscuits and homemade lemonade.<\/span><\/p>

We would like to warmly thank the students who participated in the project, the teachers of the three schools for their invaluable collaboration, and author Eleni Svoronou for designing and facilitating the creative writing workshops. Special thanks are also due to the members of the Oral History Group of Andros for their contribution to the collection, selection and promotion of oral testimonies, as well as to AltSol and the developers of the digital platform for transforming archival material into a modern and accessible tool for learning and knowledge sharing.<\/span><\/p>

We also thank the Municipality of Andros for providing the Municipal Theatre free of charge, the Andros Club for lending the projector, and everyone who supported and attended the project.<\/span><\/p>

Although this event marked the formal completion of the project, the dissemination and use of its outcomes continue through the promotion of the digital platform and the ongoing enrichment of its content. The experience gained through the pilot educational action has already informed our future approach and will guide the continuation of the programme in collaboration with the island\u2019s schools and other educational institutions. The project also lays the foundation for new educational, research and cultural partnerships centred on oral history and the cultural heritage of Andros.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
