Discover Andros Heritage on the Footpaths
The action “Discover Andros Heritage on the Footpaths”
with the support of the South Aegean Region
The action was designed and submitted to the South Aegean Region in June 2021.
Actions implemented through the action are:
- Development of a digital tool for recording, mapping and photographing points of interest of a 240 km hiking network. A total of 4,244 points were recorded, including 951 points of natural interest and 1073 points of human construction. 302 damages to dry stone walls along the routes and 1305 intersections with roads were recorded
- Bibliographic research for selected points of interest and writing over 400 short informational texts
- Design of maps for each hiking route of the network, with points of interest, technical characteristics and tour information
- Design of an information brochure for the organization’s projects with an emphasis on the hiking network.
An extremely important need of our organization, which was covered by the grant, was the configuration of an office with storage space and its full equipment. Various works were carried out for its configuration, such as architectural design, design of work furniture, electrical design and lighting design, construction of plasterboard, configuration of a kitchen and sign. The space was equipped with a video projector, sound system, wood stove, small refrigerator, kitchen utensils and can accommodate events for 40 people.
Two seminars have already been hosted in the office space, training European experts in specialized quality certification of hiking trails and training local producers of Andros in the promotion of their products in connection with the heritage of Andros, while other activities for the use of the space are planned!
Our organization, for most of its operation from its establishment in 2009 to 2022, operated without office space and storage of equipment and materials necessary for its permanent and emergency actions and essentially in spaces provided by its volunteers or sponsors.
The possibility of a grant given by the South Aegean Region to Social and Solidarity Economy organizations was of decisive importance for our organization, as it gave us the opportunity, in addition to other actions, to acquire a fully equipped office, meeting and storage space.
